Self Employment Program
Your key to entrepreneurial success!
Almost everyone, at some time in their life, dreams of working for themselves, of being independent. Most realize that the road to self-employment can be difficult and risky, but for those that reach their dream, the rewards can be great.
The
Self Employment Program focuses on providing you
with hands-on business planning and skills development through
intensive, professional workshops and business coaching over a
48-week period. From providing you with the opportunity to 'test
the waters' and see if entrepreneurship is a road you want to
travel; to understanding the fundamentals of market research,
finance and sales; the goal is to provide you with the key skills
needed to plan, launch, grow and sustain your business.
In addition to skills development, continuous support is provided
through business coaching sessions to assist you in meeting the
multitude of challenges encountered when launching a new enterprise.
The Self Employment Program is a 48-week program consisting of:

This Self Employment Program is delivered in 3 Phases.

Orientation
Sessions for the Self Employment Program are held every
two weeks. Please call the office for up coming dates and times.
As the program is a federally funded program, all clients must be referred by an Employment Assistance Services Employment Counselor. The Employment Counselor will assess the client’s suitability for this program based on the client’s needs and interests.
Eligibility
You may qualify if...

You are unemployed and have either an active EI (Employment Insurance) claim, or a previous EI, maternity, or parental claim.

You reside
in and your business is based in the Greater Victoria CRD
area (including Port Renfrew, Sooke and the Southern Gulf
Islands) and the Nanaimo area.
Some other conditions may apply.
